Clinic Description

Spark M. Matsunaga Department of Veterans Affairs Medical Center, part of the VA Pacific Islands Health Care System, offers alcohol and drug rehab services in Honolulu, Hawaii. The center provides medication-assisted treatment (MAT), inpatient (IP), outpatient (OP), and aftercare programs for veterans and their families. Specialized services are available for the LGBTQ+ community, seniors, and homeless/indigent persons. Referrals and walk-ins are accepted. Telehealth is available.

At Spark M. Matsunaga Department of Veterans Affairs Medical Center, clients are evaluated and assigned to a care coordinator. Licensed clinicians administer FDA-approved prescriptions, which may include methadone, buprenorphine, naloxone, and disulfiram, to reduce cravings and ease withdrawal symptoms. Clients are supervised throughout their recovery to prevent relapse. Transportation to the facility is available.

In addition to medication management, clients participate in individual and group counseling. Transition programs are available as clients reintegrate within their home communities, and social services can provide resources for housing and food security. A nurse’s advice line is also available. Clients may be referred to other VA centers or outside facilities for specialized substance abuse programs.
