Clinic Description
Dr. Owusu Aku, MD is a psychiatry specialist at Life Counseling Center in Jacksonville, Florida who provides behavioral and mental health services for adolescents and adults. Specialized services are available for pregnant and postpartum women and intravenous drug users and telehealth appointments may be available upon request.
Dr. Aku’s MAT services help clients detox from alcohol, opioids and other substances under medical supervision. Treatment plans are customized for each client and may include the use of medications including buprenorphine, naltrexone, methadone and Suboxone to ease withdrawal symptoms and improve client comfort.
Following medical detox, clients may enroll in outpatient programs to learn coping skills, stress management techniques and relapse prevention strategies to support their long term recovery. These services include individual and group counseling, addiction education and peer-based support groups. Clients who require longer term pharmacotherapy services can access continued MAT maintenance plans.
