Clinic Description

San Francisco General Hospital’s Office-based Buprenorphine Induction Clinic (OBIC) is an alcohol and drug rehab, which includes opioid recovery, in San Francisco, California. The center is part of the Zuckerberg San Francisco General Hospital and provides medication-assisted treatment (MAT), dual diagnosis care, outpatient programs (OP), and aftercare for late adolescents 16+, young adults, and adults.

At OBIC, clients are evaluated and assigned to a case management team. FDA-approved prescriptions, including injectable naltrexone, injectable buprenorphine XR, and sublingual buprenorphine, are used to ease withdrawal symptoms and reduce cravings. The center also employs counseling and other pharmacological services to prevent relapse.

In addition to medication management, clients receive individual and group therapy to address co-occurring mental and behavioral health disorders. Clients participate in education workshops, motivational interviewing, and cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) approaches to develop life skills and healthy daily routines. OBIC may make referrals to other San Francisco General Hospital departments or outside treatment centers for specialized substance abuse programs.

The Zuckerberg San Francisco General Hospital is accredited by The Joint Commission.

OBIC accepts clients who are eligible for public health insurance in San Francisco County, such as San Francisco Medi-Cal (San Francisco Health Plan, Blue Anthem Medi-Cal, and Kaiser Medi-Cal), Healthy San Francisco, and Healthy Workers. Self-pay and commercial insurances, such as Aetna, Beacon, BlueCross/BlueShield, Cigna, and Optum, are not accepted.
