Clinic Description
UPMC Western Behavioral Health, formerly the Western Psychiatric Institute and Clinic and now part of the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center, is an alcohol and drug rehab for young adults and adults. The center provides medication-assisted treatment (MAT), inpatient (IP), intensive outpatient (IOP), general outpatient (OP), and aftercare programs. Specialized programs are available for pregnant and postpartum women, children, adolescents, and seniors.
At the Narcotic Addiction Treatment Program, clients undergo an evaluation and are assigned to a case management team. Licensed clinicians administer FDA-approved prescriptions, including methadone, buprenorphine, and naltrexone, to reduce cravings and ease withdrawal pains. Clients are supervised during dosing and throughout their programs to discourage relapse.
In addition to medication management, clients are eligible for inpatient or outpatient care. Services include counseling, education workshops, life skills development, and lifestyle coaching to form healthy daily living routines. Co-occurring mental and behavioral health disorders, such as gambling, are addressed, and clients may be referred to outside facilities for specialized substance abuse programs.
UPMC is accredited by The Joint Commission.
UPMC offers self-pay and financing options. The center is in-network with Aetna, BlueCross/BlueShield, Cigna, Geisinger, Prime Health Services, United Healthcare, and UPMC health plans. Medicare, Medicaid, and CHIP are accepted. Please check your insurance provider for coverage and out-of-network benefits.
